Billionaire Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores has made a move to acquire 27 percent of Los Angeles Chargers, the Sports Business Journal reports. The NFL owners must approve the deal.
The team is being coached by former University of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh.
The deal does not include a path to majority control of the team for Gores, the Business Journal reports.
Gores, 60, CEO of Platinum Equity, bought the Pistons in 2011. The team has made the playoffs twice but won no post-season games. The team has been horrendous in recent years, which has not helped his popularity among fans.
Gores has been criticized for being an absentee owner because he lives out of town. Former Pistons owner Bill Davidson was regularly seen at home games.
