During this campaign season, we've seen few commercials for mayor of Detroit, despite there being nine candidates.
To remind us what a good old-fashioned mayoral ad looks like, we dug up a couple from 1989, featuring Mayor Coleman A. Young. In that election, he easily defeated accountant Tom Barrow to win a fifth term. The commercials proclaim that Young has "The Right Stuff."
He was first elected in 1973 and ended up serving for 20 years. He died on November 29, 1997, at the age of 79.
