We see it all the time: People make clones or copies of Facebook pages.
In this instance, Detroit Free Press columnist Neal Rubin writes that his account has been hacked and that he’s been locked out of his Facebook page for three weeks.
The hacker, he writes, set up a scam claiming his uncle was headed to a nursing home and needed to quickly dispose of some big-ticket items.
He writes how the scam worked:
Price them at bargain rates, but not so cheaply that potential buyers get overly suspicious. Mark a few things on the list as already sold, which adds a feeling of legitimacy. Claim to be heading out of town to help the uncle get settled, and agree to accept refundable deposits to hold items until your return.
He said one friend put out $2,000 for a nonexistent Jeep.
